Defeating the laws of nature is not something to be taken lightly. The patent application that will alter the course of history, application 64/139,615 takes 172 pages of text to explain, and 299 drawings to illustrate. After all, the course of physics and engineering that Issac Newton set in motion on July 5, 1687 has befuddled mankind for 339 years, and 50 days. It took a very seasoned engineer some time to see what thousands of physicists and engineers missed over all those years; the fact that firing a projectile using gun powder or another explosive material takes place over a very few millionths of a second. There is no mechanical device on Earth that can react to a force that happens that fast. Even if a mechanical device could react as fast as a single millisecond [a thousandth of a second], a thousand microseconds have passed during that one millisecond. The impulse that is recoil will have passed in the first 3-10 of those 1,000 microseconds, meaning that the recoil has come and gone long before the mechanical device has even begun to wake up!
Once it was realized that time was to savior of recoil, then it became a logical step to find a way to make the realm of milliseconds work in the realm of microseconds. The magic word became anticipatory. The mechanisms of the stock-still patent anticipate an on-coming firing, and get the mechanism running, so that when the recoil does hit, the mechanism is already stomping on it.
